Tulsa Planning Commission Approves Project Clydesdale Data Center Tax Incentives

The Tulsa Metropolitan Area Planning Commission (TMAPC) has approved a significant economic development initiative known as Project Clydesdale, which aims to establish a large data center campus in North Tulsa County. This project, located near the Whirlpool manufacturing facility, will consist of four data centers, each approximately 200,000 square feet, spread across a 399-acre site.

The project is structured as a tax incentive district, allowing for a 100% property tax abatement for 25 years, as outlined in the Local Development Act. In exchange for this tax relief, the developer will make substantial payments to local taxing jurisdictions, including an annual $1.5 million payment per data center and a $500,000 community betterment payment to support local infrastructure improvements.

The TMAPC's approval aligns with the Tulsa County comprehensive land use plan, which prioritizes higher density commercial and light industrial developments. The project is expected to stimulate economic growth in the area, creating jobs and enhancing local services.

As part of the approval process, the project will undergo further scrutiny to ensure compliance with operational requirements over the 25-year period. Local taxing entities will also be involved in monitoring the project's progress through annual reports, ensuring transparency and accountability.

The TMAPC's decision marks a pivotal step in advancing Tulsa's economic landscape, with hopes that Project Clydesdale will attract further investment and development in the region.
