Cleveland County is set to celebrate National Library Week from April 7 to April 13, 2024, following a proclamation made during the Cleveland County Commissioner’s meeting on April 2. The resolution, presented by Library Director Roy Adams, highlights the vital role libraries play in fostering community engagement, providing equitable access to information, and supporting local economic development.
During the meeting, Adams shared impressive statistics from the past year, noting that the library circulated over 200,000 items and welcomed nearly 170,000 visitors. The library also hosted almost 5,000 programs, showcasing its commitment to community outreach and education.
In addition to the proclamation, Adams announced the anticipated arrival of a new Bookmobile, funded by a $100,000 grant from the State Library of North Carolina. This mobile library will enhance access to resources by visiting schools, nursing homes, and community centers throughout Cleveland County, equipped with Wi-Fi and a variety of materials.
The commissioners unanimously approved the agenda and recognized various community members, including veterans and law enforcement personnel, before moving on to the special presentations. The meeting underscored the county's dedication to promoting literacy and community resources, setting the stage for a week of celebration and engagement at local libraries.
As National Library Week approaches, residents are encouraged to visit their libraries and explore the opportunities available to them, reinforcing the importance of these institutions in the community.
