The Forest Hills Board of Education celebrated academic excellence at its recent meeting on October 16, 2023, recognizing outstanding students from the district's high schools as National Merit Scholar semifinalists and commended scholars. This prestigious acknowledgment highlights the achievements of students who excelled on the PSAT and demonstrate well-rounded educational accomplishments.
Central High School led the recognition with 15 scholars, including commended scholars who represent the top 3% of students nationwide. Among them were Zachary Cheslick, Colin Kirkman, and Angela Yang. Additionally, five semifinalists from Central High, who are in the top 1% of students, will compete for national merit scholarships. These students include Amelia Alt and Jacob Harlton.
Eastern High School also honored its top performers, with nine students recognized as commended scholars, including Elena Gibson and Adam Rhodes. Semifinalist Reese Bauer was also acknowledged, alongside Lisonbee Williams and Parker Thompson, who was unable to attend due to a college visit.
Northern High School's principal, Amena Moise, announced the achievements of its commended scholars, including Matteo Adzick and Selena Du, and recognized four semifinalists: Anna Benbow and Aidan Beyer among them.
The meeting concluded with a brief recess, allowing students and their families to celebrate their accomplishments. This recognition not only highlights the students' hard work but also underscores the commitment of the Forest Hills educational community to fostering academic excellence.
