Stormwater management took center stage during the recent Richland Hearing Examiner meeting, where officials outlined plans for a new development project in Benton County. The project aims to retain stormwater on-site through the establishment of surface infiltration ponds, with some already in place from previous phases.
Key discussions highlighted the integration of existing stormwater facilities adjacent to Gage Boulevard, which will manage a significant portion of the western half of the site. Developers plan to extend stormwater infrastructure throughout the project, potentially adding one or two more facilities, with final decisions to be made during engineering assessments. Importantly, the project is designed to ensure that any water flowing off-site will not exceed predevelopment stormwater rates.
In addition to stormwater, the project will utilize irrigation water from the Badger Mountain Irrigation District, which provides non-potable water for irrigation needs. A regional booster irrigation station is set to be constructed this winter, enhancing water service to the area.
Power for the development will be supplied by Richland Energy Services, with a feeder mainline already established along the project's western boundary. This infrastructure will support the energy needs of the new development while connecting to the broader city power system.
As the project progresses, officials emphasized their commitment to addressing community needs and ensuring sustainable development practices. The next steps will involve further engineering work and community engagement to finalize the project details.
