Balch Springs City Council has taken significant steps to enhance community safety and aesthetics by addressing long-standing issues with vacant and dilapidated properties. During the recent meeting on September 8, 2025, council members discussed the demolition of a notorious house located at the corner of Timothy Lane and Pioneer Road, which had been vacant for over 20 years. The property, described as an eyesore, was in poor condition both inside and out, with severe roof damage and extensive interior rot. The owner has been given 30 days to demolish the structure, a move that is expected to improve the neighborhood's appearance and safety, especially given its proximity to a school.
In addition to this property, another larger house on Timothy Lane adjacent to the school has also been identified for demolition, with the owner granted 90 days to take action. These efforts are part of the city's broader commitment to maintaining health, safety, and the overall appearance of the community.
The council also addressed concerns regarding junk vehicles, particularly those with expired tags or no license plates. Code enforcement will handle these issues on private property, while the police will manage vehicles parked on public streets. This initiative aims to ensure that emergency vehicles can navigate the streets safely, addressing community concerns about accessibility.
The council encourages residents to report any additional properties that may require attention, as they compile a list for future action. A meeting is anticipated in November to discuss further steps in maintaining the community's standards. The proactive measures taken by the council reflect a dedication to preserving the quality of life in Balch Springs, ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for all residents.
