The Manhattan Community Board 2's Street Activities and Resiliency Committee convened on September 8, 2025, to discuss a new pop-up event by the Canadian underwear brand Nyx. The event, scheduled for September 19 and 20, aims to generate buzz around the brand through a New York-style newsstand located on Prince Street between Broadway and Crosby.
Nyx plans to engage consumers by giving away prepackaged underwear and snacks, including juice and candies from local vendors. The event will be staffed to manage crowds, limiting the line to 30 people at a time and ensuring that the setup does not extend past Crosby Street. Organizers have prepared 1,200 snacks to distribute each day, drawing on their experience from a successful similar event in Toronto.
During the meeting, committee members raised questions about outreach to local business improvement districts (BIDs) and other stakeholders. Organizers acknowledged that they had not contacted the BID but expressed willingness to do so. The event will feature no amplified sound, and security measures will be in place to ensure safety and compliance.
The committee's discussions highlighted the importance of community engagement and collaboration with local businesses, as well as the need for effective crowd management during public events. The Nyx pop-up is seen as an opportunity to enhance local vibrancy while promoting a new brand in the competitive New York market.
