Ellen Wang, a standout member of the Cooper City Southwest Ranches Girl Scouts, has achieved the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor for Girl Scouts in grades 9 through 12. Her project, the ECHO Crafts Campaign: A Sustainable Future, tackled the pressing issue of food waste and its environmental impact.
Wang organized engaging workshops for children at Hawks Bluff Elementary School and Camp Live Oak, where participants crafted reusable grocery bags and fabric food storage covers. She also launched a website and social media page dedicated to educating the community on food waste reduction, sustainable practices, and DIY tutorials. Her campaign emphasized practical strategies like meal planning and composting to help minimize food waste.
The Cooper City Commission recognized Wang's remarkable efforts with a certificate of commendation, celebrating her commitment to sustainability and community education.
In addition to Wang's achievements, the meeting also highlighted the accomplishments of Skylar Flowers, a 16-year-old water polo athlete from Cooper City High School. Flowers has demonstrated exceptional talent in the sport, competing nationally and internationally, including a recent trip to Serbia as part of the USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program. Her dedication and ambition to join the Olympic team were applauded by the commission, further showcasing the community's pride in its young achievers.
Both Wang and Flowers exemplify the spirit of determination and community engagement, inspiring others to pursue their passions and make a positive impact.
