Yolo County will officially recognize Saturday, September 20, 2025, as Coast and Creek Cleanup Day, a resolution passed by the Board of Supervisors during their recent meeting. This annual event, sponsored by the California Coastal Commission, aims to mobilize volunteers to clean up marine and riparian environments across the state.
This year marks the 41st anniversary of the statewide cleanup initiative, which has seen significant participation in the past. In 2024 alone, tens of thousands of Californians volunteered, collectively removing hundreds of thousands of pounds of trash from beaches, shorelines, and inland waterways. The cleanup is crucial as it helps prevent debris from washing into the ocean during winter rains.
In Yolo County, the cleanup will take place at eight designated locations, including Putah and Cache Creeks, the Woodland Farmers Central Ditch, the City of Davis Pond areas, and the West Sacramento Broderick Boat Ramp. The Board of Supervisors encourages community involvement, inviting families, friends, and local groups to join in this vital effort to protect local waterways and the ocean.
The resolution not only highlights the importance of environmental stewardship but also fosters community spirit as residents come together to enhance their surroundings. As the date approaches, Yolo County citizens are urged to participate in this impactful event, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
