At the recent Yolo County Board of Supervisors meeting, community unity and support took center stage, highlighted by a heartfelt message from immigrant advocate Silvina Frausto. Frausto urged attendees to share their stories and foster understanding among diverse groups, emphasizing the importance of seeing each other as valuable individuals rather than statistics or racial profiles. "The more we get to know one another, the more things in common we find," she stated, calling for the dismantling of walls of division.
The meeting also spotlighted an upcoming event organized by El Concilio, a nonprofit dedicated to community building and educational support. Jesse, a representative from the organization, announced their 37th annual dinner on October 11, which has provided nearly 1,100 scholarships to high school students in Yolo County since its inception in 1984. "We’ve given over probably close to 1,100 scholarships over the last 37 events," he noted, thanking the supervisors for their ongoing support.
As the meeting wrapped up, the board members gathered for a group photo, reinforcing the sense of community and collaboration that was a key theme throughout the discussions. The event promises to be a significant gathering, furthering the mission of bringing people together and supporting local youth.
