Kamas City Council members were presented with a heartfelt appeal for support of the Wreaths Across America program during their recent meeting. Veteran Don Gibbs passionately advocated for the initiative, which honors veterans by placing wreaths on their graves during the holiday season.
Gibbs, who shared his personal connection to the military and the importance of recognizing veterans, highlighted the program's significant impact. Last year, 3 million graves across the United States were adorned with wreaths, thanks to the efforts of 3 million volunteers and 7,408 sponsorship groups. In Utah alone, 85 cemeteries participate, with seven located in the Kamas Valley, where 435 veterans' graves were honored last year.
The council's decision on potential funding for the program is expected to resonate deeply within the community, as Gibbs emphasized the importance of supporting local veterans. He noted that previous contributions from the city and neighboring communities enabled wreaths to be placed on every veteran's grave in the area.
As the council considers Gibbs' request, the outcome could enhance the community's commitment to honoring its veterans, ensuring that their sacrifices are remembered and celebrated during the holiday season. The council's support for the Wreaths Across America program would not only provide a tangible tribute to those who served but also foster a sense of unity and respect within the Kamas community.
