Oroville is exploring the possibility of enhancing community fitness options through a national fitness campaign that could bring a new outdoor fitness court to the city. During the recent Park Commission meeting, officials discussed a potential grant ranging from $30,000 to $50,000, which could contribute to the estimated $250,000 project cost.
The initiative aims to create a fitness court that would not only provide exercise opportunities but also serve as a venue for outdoor classes such as Zumba and yoga. However, the city would need to secure an additional $200,000 to fully fund the project. To gauge community interest and support, officials plan to gather feedback during the upcoming Salmon Festival, utilizing flyers and QR codes to engage residents.
This fitness court is designed to promote multimodal transportation and encourage healthier lifestyles by offering free exercise options for those who may not afford gym memberships. The program includes a mobile app that provides users with guided workouts, focusing on bodyweight exercises.
Similar fitness courts have been successfully implemented across Northern California, with the nearest existing facility located at Yuba College. As the city considers this opportunity, the emphasis remains on fostering a healthier community and increasing access to fitness resources for all residents.
