Luis Ruiz received the Community Champion Award for his six years of dedicated service in the city’s summer service program. Despite facing personal tragedy with the loss of his wife, Ruiz has continued to support local children and families, demonstrating remarkable selflessness and commitment. His efforts have positively impacted countless lives, making him a true asset to the community.
The council also recognized Lupe Diaz with the Mayor's Choice Award. A retired registered nurse with over four decades of service in Los Angeles County, Diaz has been a steadfast volunteer, advocating for veterans and children. She has played a significant role in the Pio Pico Women's Club, helping to raise and distribute scholarships totaling over $37,000. Diaz’s involvement in various community initiatives, including holiday programs, showcases her dedication to improving the lives of others.
