In a recent meeting of the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors, a proposal for a new telecommunications facility was presented, aiming to enhance mobile coverage for approximately 1,250 residents in the area. The proposed site, located at 28401 Timberline Road, is set to feature a 65-foot tall monopine structure, designed to blend in with the surrounding environment.

The facility will occupy a 1,600 square foot lease area on a 22-acre property, which will be enclosed by a six-foot tall chain link fence with brown privacy slats. This strategic placement is intended to address a significant gap in mobile coverage, as highlighted by coverage maps presented during the meeting. Currently, many areas within a 22 square mile radius experience inadequate service, with the new facility expected to improve both outdoor and indoor connectivity.

The project aims to not only fill this coverage gap but also provide additional capacity support to existing facilities across Highway 1101, thereby enhancing overall service quality in the region. Visual simulations shared during the presentation indicated that the facility would be well-screened by existing trees, minimizing its visual impact on the landscape.

The discussion was led by representatives from Verizon, who emphasized the importance of this facility for local residents and the broader community. The Board of Supervisors will continue to evaluate the proposal, considering its potential benefits for connectivity and communication in Mendocino County. As the community increasingly relies on mobile technology, this project represents a significant step toward improving access to essential services.
