Anaheim City Council celebrated significant milestones and community achievements during its September 9, 2025, meeting, highlighting the city's rich history and vibrant local culture.

Maurice Liles, Southern California director for Governor Gavin Newsom, opened the meeting by accepting a proclamation commemorating California's 175th anniversary. He emphasized Anaheim's role as a cornerstone of Orange County, noting its founding by immigrants in 1857 and its status as a global destination, particularly due to Disneyland, which attracts 25 million visitors annually. Liles praised the city's diversity, which he described as a vital strength that enriches both Anaheim and California.

The council also recognized two local family-owned restaurants for their contributions to the community. Grama Cozas was awarded the 2025 Small Business Administration District Family-Owned Business of the Year. The restaurant, a beloved establishment for over 60 years, was celebrated for its dedication to authentic Italian cuisine and community service. Family member Frank Coza expressed gratitude for the recognition, reflecting on the restaurant's long-standing history in Anaheim.

El Pollo Fino, another cherished local eatery, received the 2025 Small Business Administration District Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. Founded in 1983 by Roberto Hernandez, the restaurant is now managed by his children, who continue to uphold its legacy. The council acknowledged their commitment to the community and the restaurant's enduring popularity.

In addition to honoring local businesses, the Anaheim High School Chamber Choir was recognized for their outstanding performance at a music festival in San Diego, which earned them an invitation to the prestigious Festival of Gold in New York City. The council expressed pride in the students' achievements and the support from their families and educators.
