Hoffman Estates officials have taken a significant step towards enhancing safety at Eisenhower Junior High School by approving an ordinance to vacate a public right of way and accept a public utility easement at 800 Hassle Road. This decision, made during the Village Board meeting on September 8, 2025, aims to address ongoing safety concerns related to traffic congestion and accidents in front of the school.

The ordinance approval follows a series of incidents where vehicles have collided in the area, including a recent crash that caused substantial damage to parked cars. In response, the school district collaborated with the village to implement safety improvements, including the installation of bollards and curbing to better manage traffic flow and protect students and staff.

Village officials noted that the existing right of way was larger than necessary for future road improvements, allowing for the vacation of this space to revert to the school. A surveyor was engaged to create the necessary plat of vacation, ensuring that utility services would remain intact through a new easement.

Trustee Carrie raised concerns about previous accidents, highlighting the urgency of the safety measures. While discussions about further modifications to the intersection were suggested, such as adding a stop sign or creating a sharper turn, no immediate plans were established.

This ordinance marks a proactive approach by the village to enhance safety for students and staff at Eisenhower Junior High, reflecting a commitment to community welfare and infrastructure improvement. The completed safety measures are already visible, with bollards and curbing now in place, ensuring a safer environment for all.
