The City Council of Republic, MO, has officially awarded the construction bid for the JR Martin Park Improvements to Nesbit Construction Incorporated, marking a significant step forward in enhancing local recreational facilities. During the September 9th meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Chris Parks presented the project, which aims to transform Jeremiah Park with a large market pavilion, plaza space, dedicated food truck areas, expanded parking, trail connections, and a concession and storage building.
This ambitious project is funded through a combination of sources totaling $2.7 million. The funding includes $1.3 million from the remaining balance of the 2023 series bond, $1 million from the capital improvement sales tax, and a $500,000 loan from the general fund, which will be repaid at a rate of 3.25%. Additionally, $400,000 will come from the capital budget surplus in the parks capital improvement sales tax.
Parks emphasized that this funding strategy is more beneficial for the city compared to previous borrowing plans, ensuring a more sustainable approach to financing the park's enhancements. The council's approval of Nesbit Construction as the general contractor is expected to pave the way for significant improvements that will enhance community engagement and recreational opportunities in the area.
