The Lewisville Planning and Zoning Commission recently discussed a proposal for a new telecommunication tower that aims to enhance connectivity in the area. The proposed site, located at 1093 West Main Street, is part of a retail strip center and is being put forward by Hemphill LLC, with Ralph Weingarten of Falk and Foster representing the operator.
The plan includes the construction of a 125-foot monopole tower, which will be topped with a 10-foot lightning rod, bringing the total height to 135 feet. This new tower is expected to improve mobile service coverage in Lewisville, addressing a growing demand for reliable telecommunications in the community. A propagation map provided with the application illustrates the current connectivity issues and the anticipated improvements once the tower is operational.
During the meeting, it was noted that the exact location of the tower may shift by up to 35 feet to accommodate recently discovered communication lines. A finalized site plan will be submitted before the upcoming city council meeting for further review.
The commission expressed support for the project, recognizing the importance of telecommunication services for residents. Staff recommended approval of the special use permit, which will allow the construction of the tower as outlined in the proposal or as adjusted in the final plan.
In addition to the tower discussion, commissioners raised questions about the potential for future developments on the site. However, it was clarified that the tower will occupy a small footprint on the existing property, minimizing the likelihood of needing a replat for additional uses.
As the city moves forward with this proposal, residents can anticipate improved telecommunications services that will enhance their daily lives and connectivity in the community. The next steps will involve the city council's review of the finalized plans, ensuring that the project aligns with the city's goals for infrastructure and community support.
