A new farmers market has officially opened in Long Beach, bringing fresh produce and healthy options to the community. The Fourth Street Farmers Market, located at the corner of Fourth Street and Cherry Avenue, celebrated its grand opening on June 12, 2025, with local leaders, including Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen, in attendance.
Councilwoman Allen highlighted the importance of the market, stating, “It just took a little time and funding was an issue. So we were happy in our office to get this started.” The market aims to provide residents with easy access to fresh fruits, vegetables, breads, and other farm-to-table goods, addressing the parking challenges in the area. “To have a place that people can just walk to and get their groceries and not have to move their car is really important,” she added.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote healthy eating within the community. Allen emphasized that the market offers low-cost options, making it easier for residents to choose nutritious foods. “This is just another great opportunity for people to get healthy options at a low cost,” she said.
The Fourth Street Farmers Market is expected to become a vital resource for the densely populated neighborhood, catering to those who prefer to shop locally without the hassle of driving. As the market settles into its new home, it promises to enhance the community's access to fresh and healthy food choices.
