During the recent Agenda Review Meeting on September 17, 2025, city officials discussed the university's expansion into the Second Floor of the Exchange Building, previously occupied by BB&T Bank. This move is expected to bring both administrative staff and students to the area, fostering economic activity as students utilize local restaurants and hotels during their studies.

To support this initiative, the city has developed a contribution agreement with Southeastern University, which outlines specific performance metrics to be achieved over the next three years. Under this agreement, the city will provide up to $50,000 annually, totaling a maximum investment of $150,000, contingent upon the university meeting its performance goals. This funding is anticipated to come from interest income, which has historically exceeded budgeted estimates.

The presence of Southeastern University is viewed as a boon for Winter Haven, with city officials expressing optimism about the benefits it will bring to the community. In addition to the university's expansion, the meeting introduced two new staff members for the Winter Haven Recreation and Cultural Center, Jahadah Mayes and Malcolm Wiggins.
