The City Council of Indianapolis held a press conference on September 17, 2025, to celebrate the completion of the Forty Six Flats affordable housing project. This initiative transformed a vacant office park into a vibrant community, providing 173 homes for individuals and families in need.
During the event, key speakers highlighted the collaborative efforts that made this project possible. Matt, a representative from the city, acknowledged the contributions of Rob Dury and Joe Willski, emphasizing the teamwork involved in bringing the project from concept to reality. Amy Burmeister, Executive Director of the Partnership for Affordable Housing (PAH), expressed gratitude to the city and all partners involved, noting that every dollar and effort was crucial in achieving this milestone.
Burmeister shared that the development includes not only housing but also community amenities such as a playground and a mural titled "Growing Together," symbolizing the project's mission. PAH, founded in 1991, aims to develop affordable housing and provide essential services to residents, including financial literacy and employment support.
Steven Enns from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) also spoke at the event, highlighting the significance of the 173 homes for the families they will serve. He noted the importance of tax credits and financing in making the project feasible, stating that such developments contribute significantly to the state's housing supply for low to moderate-income individuals.
The Forty Six Flats project is seen as a long-term investment in the community, with affordability commitments extending up to 40 years, thanks to recent funding initiatives. This development marks a significant step forward in addressing housing needs in Indianapolis, showcasing the city's commitment to creating sustainable and inclusive communities.
