Pleasant Grove City Council has taken a significant step in managing its telecommunications infrastructure by approving a new lease agreement for a cell tower. The council discussed the terms of the lease, which will see a third cell tower established in the area, joining two existing towers.
Under the agreement, the city will maintain ownership of the tower pole, while the cell service provider will own the equipment mounted on it. The lease is set for five years, with four automatic five-year renewals, and will start with an annual fee of $30,000, increasing by 4% each year. The provider will also pay a one-time entry fee of $4,000.
Council members emphasized the importance of ensuring that the city receives a fair deal. They noted that local city attorneys have collaborated to create a standardized lease template to prevent cell companies from undercutting municipalities by offering different terms. This initiative aims to ensure that all cities in Utah County are treated equitably when negotiating with cell tower providers.
The council also highlighted the need for coordination with local sports activities to minimize disruptions during the tower's installation and operation. With this new lease, Pleasant Grove City is poised to enhance its telecommunications services while safeguarding its interests.
