The Houston Planning Commission has officially approved three amendments to the Major Thoroughfare and Freeway Plan (MTFP), following a successful recommendation from staff. This decision comes after Fort Bend County adopted similar requests earlier this year, signaling a collaborative effort in regional planning.
During the meeting, no public comments were made, allowing the commissioners to swiftly move forward with a motion to approve the amendments. Commissioner Garza made the motion, which was seconded and unanimously passed.
Looking ahead, the commission plans to forward these amendments to the city council for final approval. A new map reflecting the changes will be published later this year, with the planning process set to restart in January. Members of the public interested in participating in future planning efforts will need to attend a pre-submittal meeting with the planning department early next year.
Director Tran took a moment to commend Wilson, a key planner involved in the MTFP process, for his exceptional leadership and contributions. She highlighted his efforts in training junior planners and managing the MTFP with fewer resources than in previous years, emphasizing the importance of his work to the planning department.
This meeting marks a significant step in Houston's ongoing efforts to enhance its transportation infrastructure, with the approved amendments poised to improve connectivity and mobility in the region.
