The City of Carlsbad's Parks and Recreation Commission discussed the ongoing landscape maintenance services agreements during their recent meeting, highlighting the importance of tree trimming services for the community. Currently, the city has five agreements in place, each spanning a maximum of six years, with the option to renew every two years based on mutual interest.
The commission emphasized that contractors can request Consumer Price Index (CPI) increases after the initial two-year period, acknowledging that prices may not remain static throughout the entire contract duration. Notably, the city is nearing the end of its current agreement with West Coast Arborists, the primary contractor for tree trimming services, which has been in place for over two decades.
As the contract approaches its renewal in approximately a year and a half, the city will initiate a Request for Proposals (RFP) process to invite bids from potential contractors. While West Coast Arborists has consistently provided reliable service, the commission remains open to exploring other options that may offer competitive pricing and quality.
The evaluation process for bids will not solely focus on cost but will also consider factors such as past performance and the contractor's ability to manage the city's extensive inventory of 28,000 street trees. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure that the community receives the best possible service for its landscaping needs.
As the city prepares for this upcoming transition, residents can expect continued attention to the maintenance and care of their public green spaces, reflecting the commission's commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Carlsbad.
