Miami-Dade County is set to enhance its transportation infrastructure with the approval of key planning activities for two significant projects. During a recent meeting of the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust, officials confirmed that funding for these initiatives has been included in the county budget since March.
The projects will focus on site selection and environmental clearance, addressing local needs for park-and-ride facilities. The Department of Transportation and Public Works has finalized the project scope, which includes a comprehensive needs assessment, site evaluation, public involvement, programming, concept design, and program management. This thorough approach aims to ensure that community input is integrated into the planning process.
One of the projects is located near Modern Road, adjacent to Cutler Bay. The planning activities for this site are on track, with the county coordinating closely with local municipalities. Both projects are expected to advance to the design phase, with a goal of completing 15% of the design work by June 2026.
Funding for these initiatives will come from a combination of local sources, including the People’s Transportation Plan (PTP) funds and regional trip grants. The anticipated budget for one of the projects is approximately $193,000, with a matching requirement of $50.50.
As these projects move forward, they promise to improve transportation options for residents, enhancing connectivity and accessibility throughout the county. The board remains open to questions and discussions as they prepare to initiate these vital efforts.
