The Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS have successfully completed all five major projects funded by the 2018 fire and EMS bond, marking a significant milestone in enhancing emergency services in the region. During a recent meeting of the Bond Oversight Commission, officials reported that all renovations and upgrades to the fire and EMS stations are now in a stage of substantial completion, with all facilities actively serving the community.

Division Chief Eric Jacoboskis, along with Assistant Chiefs Steven White and Thayer Smith, presented an overview of the completed projects, which included three joint fire and EMS station renovations and two standalone EMS station upgrades. The renovations were essential due to increased call volumes and the need for improved facilities to accommodate emergency personnel and equipment.

Key highlights from the renovations include expanded living quarters, upgraded medical facilities, and enhanced operational capabilities. For instance, EMS Station 1 saw its footprint increase significantly, allowing for better housing of ambulances and improved crew facilities. EMS Station 5 has become a hub for field response and clinical oversight, integrating programs that help reduce unnecessary hospital visits.

The completion of these projects comes after a few delays, primarily related to HVAC system installations. However, all stations are now operational, with no budget overruns reported, indicating effective management of the bond funds.
