The Santa Clara County Housing, Land Use, Environment, & Transportation Committee recently highlighted significant advancements in local infrastructure and planning services during their meeting on September 18, 2025.
One of the key announcements was the completion of the annual street resurfacing project, which has successfully upgraded between 60 and 70 miles of roads. This achievement was celebrated by the department, acknowledging the hard work of road maintenance workers who persevered through the summer heat to enhance community roadways.
In addition to road improvements, the committee shared exciting news about an upcoming community event. The first "Country Roads" open streets event, sponsored by Supervisor Arunas' office, is set to take place in San Martin this weekend. This initiative aims to promote community engagement and encourage residents to enjoy their local streets in a safe and festive environment.
On the planning front, Jacqueline Anciano, the director of planning development, reported progress in addressing the division's 35% vacancy rate. The department is actively interviewing new planners to bolster their team and improve service efficiency. Starting September 29, the planning division will transition to an appointment-only system, which is expected to reduce wait times for residents seeking planning services. Anciano emphasized that these changes are part of ongoing efforts to enhance public service delivery.
As the meeting concluded, there were no public comments, indicating a smooth session focused on community improvements. The committee's efforts reflect a commitment to bettering the lives of Santa Clara County residents through infrastructure enhancements and improved planning services.
