During a recent meeting of the Yolo County Housing Commission, significant updates were shared regarding housing initiatives and community support programs aimed at addressing local needs.
One of the key highlights was the status of the Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program, which was established under the American Rescue Plan of 2021. Yolo County Housing received 67 vouchers to assist families in need. However, due to rising rent costs, the funding is projected to last only until 2026, rather than the initially expected 2030. Currently, 53 of these vouchers remain available, and staff are working diligently to ensure that families do not lose their assistance. To further support these families, the commission approved a plan to prioritize EHV households on the waitlist for regular Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) if they lose their current vouchers due to funding issues.
Looking ahead, the commission anticipates discussions in upcoming meetings about potential partnerships for new housing projects, including a proposal similar to the Leonardo project in South Davis, aimed at creating missing middle-income housing in West Sacramento. Additionally, the commission plans to review its meeting calendar for 2026 to better accommodate the needs of its members.
In other updates, the commission is celebrating its 75th anniversary and is considering hosting a ribbon-cutting event for new electric vehicle charging stations being installed at various properties, including Cottonwood Meadows in Woodland. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance sustainability in housing.
The meeting also addressed the seasonal operations of migrant centers, which will close later than usual this year due to a delayed growing season. The Madison site is expected to close on November 20, followed by Davis on December 4, and Dixon on December 10.
Furthermore, the Yolo Solano Air Quality Management District is providing free air purifiers to residents at Las Casitas and Riverbend Manor in West Sacramento, enhancing health and safety in these communities.
These updates reflect Yolo County Housing's ongoing commitment to improving housing stability and quality of life for its residents, with plans for further engagement and support in the coming months.
