The Polk County Commissioners Court held a special session on September 15, 2025, at the Polk Regional Health Building to discuss the consolidation of polling places for the upcoming constitutional amendment election. The meeting began with public comments, where Ellie Monto, the city secretary and assistant city manager for Livingston, expressed support for the proposed polling locations recommended by the county clerk.
Monto outlined the new contract arrangement where the county now administers elections for the city, including early voting and election day operations. She recommended the approval of eight consolidated polling places, which include the Escapees Clubhouse, Goodrich ISC, and several community centers, among others.
The discussion highlighted a concern raised by the Democratic Party chair regarding the exclusion of two predominantly minority voting locations, Blanchard and Dunbar, from the initial list. In response, the court agreed to replace St. Joseph Catholic Church with Blanchard Baptist Church for this election. However, Dunbar will not be included this time, as historical turnout data indicated low participation at that site during past constitutional amendment elections.
Commissioners noted that the travel distance to the nearest polling location from Dunbar is within legal limits, ensuring accessibility for voters. After deliberation, a motion to approve the eight polling locations was made and seconded, passing unanimously.
The meeting concluded shortly after, with the court adjourning at 9:36 AM. The decisions made during this session will shape the voting process for the upcoming election, ensuring that polling locations are both efficient and accessible for residents.
