The Carson City Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway convened on September 22, 2025, to discuss key agreements and funding for upcoming events, particularly the Polar Express train ride.
The meeting began with the unanimous approval of an agreement with Celadon Events for Christmas decorations at the Eastgate Depot. The total cost for this agreement will not exceed $10,000, which includes enhancements to both the interior and exterior of the depot. This marks an increase from the previous year's budget of $7,800, reflecting feedback from past events that highlighted the need for improved decorations, especially at the entryway. Chairman Mitchell will execute the agreement after consulting with the Carson City District Attorney's Office to ensure legal compliance.
Liz Leonard from Celadon Events participated in the meeting, expressing enthusiasm for the project and inviting input on specific decoration locations. Commission members praised the past work of Celadon Events and expressed excitement about the upcoming enhancements.
In addition, the commission discussed a proposed amendment to an existing contract with CJ Wilson LLC, which would increase the contract amount by $12,770. This amendment is intended to fund two additional nights of Polar Express production, raising the total contract amount to $128,545. The current contract allows for 23 nights of shows, while the commission plans to schedule 25 shows for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
The meeting concluded with a strong sense of collaboration and anticipation for the upcoming holiday events, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and festive spirit in Carson City.
