Grocery Outlet closed during a busy day, which Chamber of Commerce President Jim Fossum said was the store’s choice after prior issues at similar events. Several speakers urged clearer rules or more on-site management to prevent private vendors from operating in front of established businesses.

Organizers and business owners defended the gatherings. Daryl Choute, owner of Deja Blue on Broadway, told the council the events have encouraged new businesses to open in downtown Seaside and that the city should “lean into” the attention. Rob O’Keefe, CEO of SeaMonterey, said his office will work on better resident-facing communications about road closures and safe routes.

Event producers and longtime Car Week organizers asked the city for more coordination and resources rather than curbs. Will Elkady, founder of the Automobile Collectors Expo, said the character of Car Week has changed with newer audiences and social media, and recommended additional city resources—particularly public-safety staffing and parking management—so events can operate safely as they grow.

Several speakers proposed concrete changes: improved resident notification and designated resident-only parking, larger or better-signed shuttle pick‑up and drop‑off points, clearer pedestrian routes to fenced event areas, more on-site first-aid or marshaling, and a countywide task force to coordinate events across jurisdictions. Others argued the primary issue was improper behavior by a subset of attendees and urged enforcement against illegal street vending and theft.
