The City Council of Marysville has approved an innovative fundraiser aimed at enhancing community spirit and beautifying local sidewalks. During the recent meeting on September 22, 2025, junior class sponsor Ali Argo presented a plan to paint paw prints and pins on sidewalks throughout the downtown area, with the goal of raising funds for school activities.
The initiative will involve reaching out to local businesses for permission to paint these designs, which will be approximately 30 inches in size. The council discussed the logistics of the project, including the use of permanent paint to ensure durability. However, there was also consideration for temporary options that could be refreshed annually, allowing for ongoing community engagement.
Argo emphasized that the fundraiser is not just limited to businesses on Broadway but will extend to all interested local establishments. Flyers will be distributed to inform businesses and residents about the project, with contact information provided for those wishing to participate. The council expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its potential to foster community involvement and pride.
In addition to the sidewalk painting project, the council also addressed a zoning amendment for the Brockie Heights subdivision. The planning commission recommended changing the zoning from commercial to residential to align with surrounding areas, which the council approved without opposition.
These discussions reflect the council's commitment to enhancing community engagement and ensuring that local development aligns with the needs and desires of residents. As the sidewalk painting project kicks off next week, it promises to be a vibrant addition to Marysville, encouraging both school spirit and local business participation.
