This weekend, Shawnee County is buzzing with excitement as two inaugural events promise fun and community engagement. The Honey Festival at Old Prairie Town and the Tunes and Blooms event at Ted Inslee Gardens are set to take place on Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM.
The Honey Festival, a first for the county, invites attendees to explore the world of beekeeping. For just $3 per person, visitors can enjoy live music, honey extraction demonstrations, blind honey tastings, and a variety of vendors selling crafts and food. Tours of the historic buildings at Old Prairie Town will also be available, making it a day filled with activities for all ages.
Simultaneously, the Tunes and Blooms event at Lake Shawnee offers a suggested donation of $5, with free entry for kids 12 and under. This event, organized by the Friends of Ted Inslee, features live music, food trucks, and a car show, all set against the beautiful backdrop of the gardens.
In addition to these festivities, the meeting highlighted updates from various departments. Kellen Sites from Stormontville of Vincerne shared that the community recently enjoyed a busy weekend filled with events, including a barrel horse racing finals and a die-cast show. He also expressed excitement for the upcoming home opener of the Topeka Scarecrows hockey season, promising thrilling entertainment for local sports fans.
On a different note, John Landon from the weed department addressed concerns about rising herbicide prices, urging customers to expect increases of 15 to 40% due to supply challenges.
As Shawnee County gears up for a vibrant weekend, residents can look forward to celebrating community spirit and enjoying the outdoors at these exciting events.
