A new brewery is set to open in Hammond, Indiana, bringing excitement and job opportunities to the community. During the recent Hammond City Council meeting, officials announced that a foreign local brewery and taproom will occupy the old Host Connection building on Kennedy Avenue, creating 10 to 15 new jobs and representing a million-dollar investment. The brewery plans to brew a variety of craft beers on-site and will partner with Smoke on the Water to offer Mexican barbecue.
Councilman Wuerpel, who sponsored the resolution for the brewery, expressed enthusiasm about the development, highlighting its alignment with the city’s vision for Downtown Hessville. “This is good news,” he stated, noting the importance of the new business in revitalizing the area. The brewery is expected to open by the end of the year, marking a significant step forward for local economic growth.
In addition to the brewery announcement, the meeting also touched on the recent Hammond City employee Olympics, where the Department of Public Works triumphed in a kickball tournament, showcasing teamwork across various city departments.
The council also discussed ongoing projects, including a ribbon-cutting for a new facility by Hudumaki and the acquisition of the old Bargain Finder building, which is set to be demolished to improve the area near Hessville Park. These developments reflect the city’s commitment to enhancing local infrastructure and community engagement.
