Pavement operations are back on track in Grand County after weather-related delays, with County Road 832 and 834 set for completion by tomorrow afternoon. David Buckley from the Road and Bridge department reassured commissioners that asphalt work will resume promptly, with United Companies scheduled to tackle a 5,000 square-foot section of County Road 60 leading to the mine entrance shortly thereafter.
Despite concerns about potential weather disruptions, Buckley expressed confidence in meeting the mid-October deadline, provided blizzard conditions do not arise. “We’re feeling pretty confident looking at the forecast,” he stated, highlighting the favorable weather expected for the week ahead.
In a bittersweet moment, the meeting also marked the upcoming retirement of Scott Kentfield, a dedicated member of the Road and Bridge team for 19 years. Buckley praised Kentfield for his unwavering commitment to maintaining safe road conditions and his significant contributions during emergencies, including the Chubbson fire evacuations. Kentfield's retirement is set for October 2, and he will be greatly missed by his colleagues.
In other business, the commissioners approved a contract extension for Birch Ecology, ensuring continued collaboration through June 30, 2026. Additionally, the Middle Park Fair Board members were reappointed, solidifying their roles in the community.
As the meeting wrapped up, commissioners were reminded of an upcoming bargaining team meeting scheduled for September 30, ensuring ongoing engagement in local governance.
