Reno County is poised to take a significant step forward in infrastructure development, as the Board of County Commissioners discussed becoming a subrecipient for a grant from the Chamber of Commerce and Growth Inc. This grant is aimed at funding engineering and design work for a crucial three-mile stretch of road that will primarily serve the new Evergy plant.
The proposed road project will extend from Highway 50 along McNew Road, connecting to Mills Avenue and K 96. With a deadline to utilize the grant funds by the end of this year, or potentially by March with an extension, the county is eager to move forward. The current roads are township-managed, overseen by four different townships, making county involvement essential for effective coordination.
Commissioner Don Bridal highlighted the importance of this collaboration, noting his strong relationships with township officials and his expertise in road management. The board members, including Patrick and Bridal, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to enhance local infrastructure and support economic growth through this project.
As the county prepares to take action, the anticipated next steps include finalizing the grant agreement and initiating the engineering process, paving the way for bidding in 2026. This initiative not only aims to improve transportation access but also underscores the county's commitment to fostering economic development in the region.
