During the recent Mahtomedi Public Schools School Board meeting, a significant funding request was approved that promises to enhance literacy support for students. Judy Livingston, the literacy coach at Wildwood, presented a proposal for the Project Reads UFLI portal, a subscription-based tool designed to assist teachers in efficiently scoring reading assessments.
The cost of the subscription is notably low, at just $3.50 per student for the entire year. This affordability, combined with the potential benefits, excited the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), which endorsed the initiative. The portal aims to streamline the process of tracking student progress in phonics and spelling, allowing educators to automate data input and focus more on teaching.
By utilizing this tool, teachers can quickly assess each student's reading skills and group them accordingly, ensuring that those who need extra practice receive the support they require. The board decided to implement the subscription on a trial basis for one year, reflecting a commitment to improving literacy outcomes in the district.
This decision highlights the school board's ongoing efforts to enhance educational resources and support for both teachers and students, ultimately aiming to foster a stronger learning environment in the Mahtomedi community.
