Walpole High School celebrated academic excellence at the recent School Committee meeting, recognizing seniors Duthy Prashanth and William Fezzy as semi-finalists in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program. This honor places them among the top 16,000 high-scoring students nationwide, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors. Their outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test opens the door to compete for nearly 7,000 scholarships worth a total of $26 million.
The recognition highlights the hard work and dedication of both students, with school officials expressing pride in their achievements. "To be named National Merit semi-finalist is one of the highest academic honors a high school student can earn," said a school representative, emphasizing the significance of this accolade.
In addition to the recognition of Prashanth and Fezzy, the meeting featured updates from student representatives. Senior James Pity reported on a successful Back to School Night, the popularity of the new science wing, and upcoming events, including college visits and a career day for freshmen. The school is also launching a new series called Timber Talk, showcasing highlights from recent games.
As Walpole High School continues to foster academic and extracurricular engagement, the recognition of its students serves as a testament to the school's commitment to excellence and community involvement.
