Rogers Elementary School is making waves in the Mehlville School District, showcasing impressive academic and social improvements during the recent Board of Education meeting. Principal Dr. Patrick Kenoy highlighted the school’s record number of 15 student clubs, fostering engagement and leadership among students from kindergarten through fifth grade. This initiative aims to enhance connections and belonging, which are crucial for academic success.
Dr. Kenoy also celebrated the school’s innovative Wonder Works program, which recently earned a National Promising Practice Award. This initiative supports early learners and encourages older students to volunteer, creating a nurturing environment that benefits all ages. The school’s enrollment has slightly decreased, but with new housing developments on the horizon, growth is anticipated.
Attendance rates have soared from 84.3% to 94.7% over three years, reflecting strong community ties and student engagement. Academically, Rogers Elementary is closing achievement gaps, with a significant drop in students reading two or more grade levels behind—from 15.4% to just 3%. Similar progress was noted in math, showcasing the effectiveness of targeted instructional strategies and data-driven decision-making.
The meeting also addressed the partnership agreement with the Special School District, emphasizing collaboration in special education services. Dr. Charity Schluter presented the agreement, which aims to enhance inclusivity and shared responsibilities in providing quality education for all students.
As the district looks ahead, the focus remains on fostering a culture of belonging and well-being, ensuring that every student feels supported and engaged in their learning journey. The Board's commitment to high-quality professional development for educators is also a key strategy for driving student success, aligning with the district's goals for continuous improvement.
