The Moline-Coal Valley CUSD 40 Board of Education meeting on May 28 highlighted the successful conclusion of the school year and the upcoming summer meal program aimed at supporting local families.
Superintendent Dr. Rachel welcomed attendees by expressing gratitude for the recent graduation ceremony, which celebrated over 500 students. She noted the pride felt by families and the community during this significant event, despite some delays in entry. Dr. Rachel emphasized the collaborative efforts of teachers, staff, and parents that contributed to a positive school year, which is set to conclude this Friday with a short school day.
In a move to address community needs during the summer, the district announced it will provide free lunches to anyone aged 18 and under. The meals will be available from June 4 to July 2, excluding June 19, with no registration or identification required. Families can pick up meals at Moline High School from 10 AM to 10:30 AM, Monday through Friday. Dr. Rachel assured that the district would communicate this opportunity to families effectively.
The meeting also touched on the upcoming joint annual conference in Chicago this November, with a reminder for board members to confirm their attendance.
Student board member Abby reported on the excitement surrounding the end of the school year, noting the absence of seniors and the countdown to summer. She celebrated the achievements of the track teams, which sent several athletes to the state competition, and highlighted the fishing team’s success in qualifying two boats for the state tournament.
Overall, the meeting underscored the district's commitment to fostering a supportive community environment and ensuring that students continue to receive essential services during the summer months.
