Governor Spencer Cox highlighted the importance of supporting individuals with disabilities during the Disability in Utah Summit and the Golden Key Awards held recently. The event celebrated Utah employers and community partners who excel in hiring and supporting people with disabilities, reinforcing the state's long-standing commitment to this cause.
In his opening remarks, Governor Cox emphasized Utah's pioneering role in vocational rehabilitation, noting that the state established one of the first programs in the nation over a century ago. He praised the efforts of the state office of rehabilitation, which connects businesses with a skilled workforce of individuals with disabilities. A key focus of this initiative is preparing young Utahns for adulthood and the workforce, ensuring they gain essential skills and experiences before graduating from school.
The summit also recognized outstanding individuals and organizations making a difference in the community. Governor Cox congratulated the Golden Key scholarship recipients: John Wilsey, Madeline Whitaker, Rebecca E. Hein, Brianna Christiansen, and Emram Kukoli. Additionally, he acknowledged the 2025 Golden Key Award winners, including Progression for Life, the Utah Veteran Business Resource Center, Daryl Guiver from Mountain America Credit Union, Lovie's Cakes, CleanTech Cleaning and Restoration, and Suncor.
