The City of Seaford Mayor & Council Meeting held on June 24, 2025, addressed several key updates and initiatives concerning public works and energy management in the community.
The meeting commenced with a report on recent electrical upgrades. The city has replaced secondary breakers on Rodney Street and at City Hall to address issues experienced during events like Friday Night Live. Additionally, broken street poles on Market and Harrington Streets were replaced, along with a faulty transformer on Bradford Street. Power was successfully restored on West Ivy, and the city is set to receive free LED street lamps, which will be installed on Stein Highway and redistributed to other areas.
Councilman Greg Brok reported on his attendance at various local meetings, including discussions about the Mob Watch transformer and the annexation of the DP&L with the Sunrise Motel. He also attended a Power Summit in New Jersey. Notably, the City of Seaford received three awards: a Certificate of Excellence in Reliability, a Smart Energy Provider designation—the first of its kind—and a Safety Award of Excellence, with plans to present these accolades at the next meeting.
Councilman Alan Quillen then provided updates from the Public Works and Wastewater Treatment Facility. He noted ongoing fire hydrant flushing throughout the city and the formation of a VOC sampling for the state. Other activities included service leak repairs on Pennsylvania Avenue, reorganization of the back shop, and installation of new equipment. The wastewater treatment facility is performing well, with dewatering processes and testing for new polymers underway.
The meeting concluded with a positive note on the ongoing development throughout the city, highlighting the council's commitment to improving infrastructure and community services. The next steps include the continuation of various projects and the presentation of the recent awards at the upcoming meeting.
