A new initiative aimed at enhancing child safety in Carroll County has gained traction, with the introduction of Roth ID tags designed for car seats. This innovative program, inspired by a tragic accident that claimed the life of Julie Roth and her unborn child, aims to ensure that first responders can quickly identify children in emergencies.

During the recent Carroll County Board of Supervisors meeting, officials highlighted the importance of these tags, which attach to car seats and contain vital information such as emergency contacts, the child’s name, date of birth, and any allergies. In the event of an accident, first responders can easily access this information, facilitating a swift reunification process with parents or guardians.

The program has already seen significant support, with 200 tags purchased through an emergency preparedness grant at a cost of approximately $1,500. The tags are designed to be weatherproof and durable, ensuring they remain intact in various conditions. Alongside the tags, families receive brochures detailing installation and usage, as well as additional emergency contact cards for caregivers.

In addition to the Roth ID tags, the meeting also touched on other community health initiatives, including gun lock distribution and car seat checks. These efforts reflect a broader commitment to public safety and health education within the county.
