Denton County has officially declared October 2025 as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a move aimed at enhancing public understanding of online safety and security. During a recent meeting of the Denton County Commissioners Court, the proclamation was unanimously approved, highlighting the county's commitment to protecting its citizens from increasing cyber threats.

Kevin Carr, the Director of Technology Services, emphasized the importance of cybersecurity in today’s interconnected world. He noted that as reliance on technology grows, so does the risk of cyberattacks that can disrupt lives and compromise sensitive information. Carr urged residents and businesses to take proactive steps to safeguard their data, including recognizing phishing attempts, using strong and unique passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, and keeping software updated.

The proclamation aligns with a national initiative that has been recognized since 2004, encouraging collaboration between public and private sectors to raise awareness about cybersecurity. Carr mentioned that while the county typically rolls out a Cybersecurity Champion program for employees during this month, staffing challenges have delayed its implementation until early 2026.

Commissioners expressed their appreciation for the efforts of Carr and his team in maintaining the county's cybersecurity infrastructure.
