Operational supplies, including custodial items like toilet paper and cleaning products, are on the rise, prompting the Davis County Budget Committee to address these increasing costs during their recent Facilities 2026 Budget Presentation. The committee highlighted a request for an additional $50,000 to revamp aging landscapes across the county, part of a five-year plan aimed at enhancing sustainability through improved plantings.
In addition to landscaping, the committee discussed the urgent need for new egress lights on the west side of the building, which have suffered corrosion due to salt exposure. A budget request of $10,000 was proposed to replace these lights, following similar upgrades made two years ago.
Another notable request involved the replacement of three aging ice machines, which have exceeded their typical lifespan of 8 to 10 years. The committee acknowledged the importance of these machines for employee morale, suggesting that the first floor, the most heavily used area, should be prioritized for the new unit.
Lastly, the committee addressed the increased maintenance costs associated with a newly constructed 120,000 square foot building, emphasizing that funding for these expenses should come from tourism funds. The discussions reflect a proactive approach to managing the county's facilities and ensuring they meet the needs of the community.
