Tiverton Town Council members are pushing for the reallocation of unspent funds during the September 29 meeting, emphasizing the need to maximize budget efficiency. Key discussions centered around outstanding project balances and the necessity for essential equipment, including dehumidifiers and fireproof cabinets.
Council members highlighted that several requests, some dating back two to three years, remain unfulfilled. Among these, a request for $1,500 for dehumidifiers was underscored as critical for maintaining a healthy environment in the town hall's basement, especially during humid weather. "We still need them," one member stated, pointing out the ongoing issues with moisture and the lack of personnel to manage the existing units.
Additionally, a $15,000 request for fireproof cabinets was discussed, with members noting the importance of securing sensitive documents now that the server room's location has been established. "We can't go back there anymore. It's not healthy," one council member remarked, referring to the current storage conditions.
The council is keen on ensuring that any remaining funds from completed projects are returned to the gaming capital fund, allowing for better allocation of resources. The discussions reflect a proactive approach to addressing the town's infrastructure needs while ensuring fiscal responsibility. As the council moves forward, the focus will remain on completing outstanding projects and utilizing available funds effectively.
