New Rochelle is set to enhance its sustainability efforts with the approval of a new solar panel installation at the local gym. During a recent planning board meeting, officials reviewed a proposal for a 35.1 kW solar array consisting of 65 panels, designed to be discreetly positioned behind a parapet on the building's roof.

The solar panels will be installed using the Aero Compact Flat S 10 self-ballasting system, which allows for a 10-degree tilt. This design not only maximizes energy efficiency but also ensures that the panels remain largely hidden from view, maintaining the aesthetic of the gym's exterior. The parapet, measuring 21 inches tall, will effectively conceal the panels, which will sit at a height of 16 inches.

The planning board was presented with detailed site plans and electrical layouts, illustrating the proposed equipment's placement and necessary electrical connections. The installation aims to support New Rochelle's commitment to renewable energy and reduce the community's carbon footprint.

In addition to the solar panel discussion, the meeting included a review of engineering assessments confirming the gym's roof can support the additional weight of the solar equipment.
