Prescott Valley's development services team is set to enhance community engagement and streamline processes following a recent town meeting. Interim Development Services Director Stacy Bristow, in her second week on the job, highlighted the collaborative efforts of her team, which includes planning, zoning, development engineering, and building safety. She emphasized the importance of teamwork across departments to effectively guide residents through home projects and support local businesses.
Bristow reported that since January, the department has processed over 2,300 applications, which range from minor home improvements to significant business expansions. Notably, 248 residential and 30 commercial certificates of occupancy were issued, ensuring that new homes and businesses meet safety standards.
Principal Planner John Jacobson introduced long-range planning initiatives, including a new electronic portal designed to improve communication and efficiency for permit applicants. This system aims to enhance the overall experience for residents seeking building and zoning permits.
A significant focus of the meeting was the development of a wildlife corridor, which aims to protect sensitive ecosystems and habitats in the area. Jacobson explained that the project is in its second phase, which involves identifying and connecting wildlife habitats across various land ownerships. This initiative aligns with the town's commitment to sustainable land stewardship and quality of life for both residents and wildlife.
As Prescott Valley continues to grow, the development services team is dedicated to fostering a safe and sustainable community, ensuring that both human and ecological needs are met. The town looks forward to implementing these initiatives, which promise to enhance the quality of life for all its residents.
