During the recent Baldwin Park City Council meeting, community engagement and cultural celebration took center stage, particularly with the observance of Hispanic Heritage Month. Irma Morales from the Los Angeles County Library System highlighted various resources available to residents, including online materials and programs that celebrate this important month.
Morales announced an upcoming writer's summit on Sunday, October 5, at the West Hollywood Library, aimed at uplifting LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC voices. This inaugural event will feature workshops and discussions, providing a platform for diverse narratives.
In addition to the summit, the library is hosting a DIY science event for children on Saturday, October 11, where participants can create pumpkin volcanoes, fostering a love for science among young learners aged 4 to 12. Registration is required for these programs, which can be accessed through the library's website.
Morales also shared information about virtual programs available throughout October, including an author talk titled "Nuestra America," scheduled for October 2, and a Microsoft Word for Beginners session on October 14. These programs are designed to be accessible in both English and Spanish, ensuring inclusivity for all community members.
Furthermore, the library will hold a free vaccine clinic on October 14, reinforcing its commitment to public health and safety.
The meeting concluded with a reminder of the library's ongoing efforts to provide valuable resources and programs to the Baldwin Park community, emphasizing the importance of cultural awareness and community support.
