In a recent community meeting, the Sierra Vista Lions Club highlighted two significant upcoming events aimed at supporting local children and families in crisis. The discussions centered around Project Linus and the Relay for Life, both of which emphasize community involvement and support for those in need.
Project Linus, scheduled for Saturday, October 11, from 9 AM to noon at the Salvation Army Community Center, invites volunteers to create no-sew fleece blankets for children in crisis situations. These handmade blankets provide comfort to kids who may be facing difficult circumstances, such as those in foster care or experiencing domestic issues. The initiative encourages participation from all ages, with activities including knot-tying and coloring quilt blocks. The last event saw over 70 volunteers come together to produce more than 100 blankets, showcasing the community's commitment to helping vulnerable children.
The second event, Relay for Life, will take place on October 25 from 2 PM to 10 PM in City Park. This annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society not only raises money for cancer research but also serves as a celebration of cancer survivors and a support network for those affected by the disease. The event will feature various activities, including games for children, and will be emceed by Sheriff Daniels. Participants can register online or simply attend to show their support.
Both events reflect the Sierra Vista Lions Club's dedication to fostering community spirit and providing essential support to those in need. The club encourages residents to participate, whether through volunteering, attending, or simply spreading the word, as these initiatives aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local families.
