The meeting also touched on the success of the Atomic City Transit’s Saturday service, which has been piloted over the past few months and will continue through October 25. This service allows residents to request transportation via an app or phone call, enhancing access to the library and other local destinations. Feedback from users has been positive, indicating a strong demand for this service.

The Friends of Los Alamos County Library reported that they did not meet due to a lack of quorum but are crucial in managing surplus materials from the library. Their efforts generate approximately $45,000 annually, which is reinvested into library services. They have also partnered with Thriftbooks to expand their sales of surplus items online, providing another avenue for community support.

In terms of library usage, September saw a total circulation of 34,733 items, with 25,122 in print and 9,613 digital. The library hosted 68 programs, attracting 1,277 attendees, including a notable presentation on horticultural diversity and a quarterly puzzle competition due to its popularity.

Looking ahead, the library will host a concert and discussion with the group Love Call, furthering its commitment to community engagement through diverse programming. The board's decisions and initiatives reflect a proactive approach to enhancing library services and fostering a vibrant community culture.
